Helping you grow your online presence — one step at a time.

Oh no! My Website is Naked!

It’s perhaps one of my greatest faults that I like to post and create on the fly… at least when it comes to a publicly viewable website. Earlier this week I was both thrilled and terrified to see that Yuwanda from InkwellEditorial.com had stopped by. Thrilled because I think of her as one of my “internet-mentors”. Terrified because my website was naked!

“Naked?” you ask. As of this writing my website has been up and running for a handful of weeks and I have been careful not to publish it. Well, perhaps not careful enough. You see many of my pages have been place holders, design ideas, and drafts. So having someone I admire stumble upon my work in progress felt a bit like those dreams where you suddenly realize you forgot to get dressed and you’re now in the middle of a group of important people. *shudder*

So now, dear reader, here is a tip directly from the ol’ experience bank: Do not put link-backs on your site until you have content! Because people will find your naked website and they may avert their eyes. And you want them to look. Not at the naked site, but at the well-dressed-ready-to-take-to-the-opera site. You only get to make that first impression once, so make it a good one!

** Authors note: I am still filling in a couple of blanks but it seems as if Freelance Writing has taken off faster than I thought and I’m a bit overbooked. So don’t do too much peeking yet… I’m not quite dressed! (But more on that for my next post…)
